Comprehensive Lab Testing for Better Health Insights and Results

An accurate diagnosis is the foundation of any effective treatment plan. Taking the time to fully understand what is happening in your body allows care to be targeted, personalized, and far more effective. Rather than relying on guesswork, appropriate testing helps identify the root causes of symptoms and ensures that recommendations are based on real data.

Following your appointment, your practitioner may recommend specific tests to better understand your health concerns. These tests are selected carefully to support clarity, precision, and meaningful progress. A wide range of core laboratory, and functional tests are available.

Core Laboratory Testing

Core lab tests are completed through standard laboratory facilities and may include both basic assessments similar to conventional medical testing, as well as more comprehensive panels.

Commonly recommended tests include:

  • Female sex hormones
  • Insulin and glucose testing
  • Complete thyroid hormone panels
  • Inflammation and autoimmune markers
  • Nutrient levels (such as B12, folate, iron, and vitamin D)
  • Cholesterol and liver function tests
  • Cortisol testing
  • Digestive health testing

Functional Laboratory Testing

Functional testing offers a deeper look at how well the body is actually functioning. These advanced assessments help identify why symptoms are occurring—or what may be needed to support long-term health. They are especially helpful for complex or chronic concerns.

Hormonal Health Testing

Female hormone panels for hormone-related symptoms, including estrogen, progesterone, DHEA-S, testosterone, DHT, SHBG, LH, FSH, cortisol, TSH, free T4, free T3, reverse T3, anti-TG, and anti-TPO

Metabolic Health Testing

A thorough metabolic assessment often includes evaluation of:

  • Thyroid hormones
  • Insulin and glucose regulation
  • Cortisol and stress hormones
  • Liver function
  • Digestive health
  • Cholesterol levels
  • Hormone balance

Both core and functional tests may be used to gain a complete picture.

Weight Management Panel

  • Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S
  • Four-point cortisol
  • TSH
  • Insulin
  • HbA1c
  • Vitamin D

Gastrointestinal Health Testing

GI Effects Testing

A non-invasive stool test that evaluates digestion, absorption, gut immune activity, and microbial balance, including dysbiosis, yeast, parasites, and H. pylori. It also measures beneficial bacteria important for digestive and immune health.

SIBO Testing

Breath testing used to assess bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.

Parasite Testing

Stool testing to evaluate for parasitic infections.

Please note: Specialized testing is not covered by OHIP. Some tests may be eligible for coverage through extended health benefits, and it is recommended to confirm coverage directly with your provider prior to testing.
